      How it works

The tool calculates the position of the sun for the chosen date with the standard astronomical formulas used by NOAA, in Spanish local time. At Mallorca's latitude the sun sets far to the north-west in June and far to the south-west in December, so a viewpoint that faces the open sea in summer may look at a mountain in winter.

For every viewpoint we noted the stretch of horizon where the sea is open. When the sunset or sunrise falls inside that stretch, the sun meets the sea. Islands, haze and cloud can still change the picture, so arrive a little early. Golden hour here means the time the sun is less than six degrees above the horizon.

      Questions

Where is the best sunset on Mallorca?

The west and north-west coasts: Sant Elm with Sa Dragonera, the Mirador de ses Ànimes above Banyalbufar, Sa Foradada near Deià and the lighthouse road at Port de Sóller. In winter the cliffs of Cap Blanc and the beach of Es Trenc face the sunset too.

Where can I watch the sunrise?

At the eastern capes: Cap de Capdepera near Cala Ratjada, the island's easternmost point, and Cap de Formentor at the end of the northern peninsula. Both face the open sea to the east all year.

What time is sunset in Palma in summer?

Around half past nine in the evening at the end of June, local summer time. In December the sun sets shortly after five. The tool shows the exact time for any date.

Is the sunset at Sa Foradada visible all year?

Only part of the year. From late spring to late summer the sun sets over the sea to the north-west. In winter it sets further south, behind the coast and the mountains.
