How far is it really?

Choose where you start and the tool calculates the drive to twenty-eight towns, harbours and capes over the island's real road network.

    How the times are calculated

The island is reduced to twenty-eight points and the main roads between them, each with a typical driving time outside peak traffic, rounded to five minutes. The tool then finds the quickest chain of roads, the same way a navigation app does, and adds the stretches together.

Mountain roads such as the Ma-10 through the Serra de Tramuntana are slow by nature, and in spring they are shared with cyclists. In July and August, on market mornings and around Palma at rush hour, allow a quarter more. The guide to getting around covers trains, buses and boats as well.

    Questions

How long is the drive from Palma airport to Sóller?

About 35 minutes outside peak traffic, using the tunnel under the Coll de Sóller. The old mountain road over the pass is far slower but much more beautiful, and popular with cyclists.

Can I reach Cap de Formentor by car?

The road to the lighthouse is restricted for private cars at busy times in summer, when a shuttle bus runs instead. Outside those periods you can drive to the end. Check the current rules before you go.

Why are the times shorter than in some navigation apps?

They assume normal traffic outside rush hour. Live navigation includes the traffic of the moment, roadworks and parking. Use the high summer setting for a more cautious estimate.

    Do the times include parking?

No. In Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller and the popular calas finding a space in summer can take longer than the last part of the drive. Arriving early solves most of it.
